Raising Money

Please help us raise as much money as possible through the BIG BIKE RIDE to help make a huge difference to the lives of children in desperate need of support. Let everyone know about the BIG BIKE RIDE challenge you are taking on and follow our top tips to help raise sponsorship. Please remember that every penny you raise will go towards our Child's Voice Appeal to give more children someone to turn to.
Think BIG fundraising
1. Set yourself a target
- Start by setting yourself an achievable but ambitious target. Challenge yourself to raise the most you think you can for children.
- Get sponsored per mile, per lap or ask for a bonus if you complete your miles within a certain time.
2. Set up your own fundraising page
- Make it easy for everyone by setting up your own online sponsorship page in just a couple of minutes. Just go to www.justgiving.co.uk/nspccbigbikeride and follow the easy steps to safe online fundraising.
- Email the link to your page friends, family and colleagues and everyone in between. You can also add it to your email signature or blog.
- All online sponsorship money automatically and safely goes straight to the NSPCC, saving you all the hassle of collecting it.
3. Sponsorship tips
- Keep your sponsorship form handy at all times and ask everyone you know to make a donation. Collect sponsorship there and then so you don't have to go back and collect it.
- Ask for a specific amount and remember it's easier for people to give less than more so aim high! Ask the person you think will sponsor you the most first and hopefully they will set a trend.
- Photocopy your form if you need more space, or download extra copies
- Here are some more top tips for fundraising!
4. Matched funding
- Lots of companies will match the fundraising efforts of their employees through a matched funding scheme. Find out if your company does as it's an easy way to double your fundraising total.
5. Gift Aid it for 28 per cent extra free!
- Gift Aid means that the NSPCC can claim an extra 28p from the Government for every pound you raise – at no extra cost to you. Ensure all your sponsors fill out their full name, address and postcode and tick the box of the sponsorship form and we'll do the rest!
If you're organising your own ride, here are a few more tips:
- Buy your very own BIG BIKE RIDE t-shirts for you and your riders.
- Charge a small entry fee for people taking part
- Have a post ride BBQ or party inviting all your friends and family to help celebrate your achievement…and charge them for the food and drink!
- Challenge others to join you! Another way to boost your fundraising is to maximise promotion of your bike ride, so here are a few helpful tips:
- Post your event details on your company intranet.
- Display your BIG BIKE RIDE poster and other materials around the office, local shop windows, gym or sports centre, doctor's surgery, school, on your local church or village hall notice boards or even in your front window.
- Email your friends about the BIG BIKE RIDE.
- Send a press release to your local newspapers and radio stations.
Returning your hard earned funds
Well done for completing your challenge and raising money for children. When you've collected all the money you've raised, send it back using the paying in form enclosed in your pack (if you're organising your own) or simply with your sponsor form (if you're attending an NSPCC event).
Please bank any cash you have raised and write a cheque payable to 'NSPCC BIG BIKE RIDE'. Please do not send any cash in the post. For your own safety, please take care when handling money.
Please send all sponsorship raised to: NSPCC BIG BIKE RIDE, PO box 4141, Bracknell, RG42 9HQ.
