The routes

Green Route - 15km (9.3 miles) via Bute Park and River Taff
A great route for all the family. This gentle and pleasant route is almost entirely traffic free. It follows the Taff Trail, on the banks of the River Taff, heading north as far as Hailey Park, where cyclists make a loop through the park before returning along the same route.

Purple Route – 30km (18.75 miles) via Hailey Park, Castell Coch, Glas-y-Llyn and Tongwynlais
Following the same route along the Taff as the 15km ride, this route continues north and steadily climbs up to the impressive Castell Coch. The last of this climb is steep, but well worth it. From here the route then carries on up through woodland before descending back to the old railway line on the Taff Trail route, before taking a turn south, through Tongwynlais and back along the Taff to Cardiff. Around Tongwynlais there is a small section on pavements and busy roads.

Orange Route – 55km (34.3 miles) via Castell Coch, Pontypridd, Caerphilly and Tongwynlais
Looking for a challenge? Follow the 30km route over Castell Coch and then north towards Pontypridd following the old railway line. The route now climbs some 140m for some impressive views! Then drops down south east towards Caerphilly along quiet lanes before heading south again and rejoining the old railway line routes back through Tongwynlais and back to Cardiff. This is the toughest of the routes and not recommended for under 16's.

Jamie Robinson

'Cardiff Blues' Jamie Robinson: "I have great memories of going on long bike rides with my family when I was younger and I still go out for rides now as part of my training for the Blues. The BIG BIKE RIDE is a great opportunity for all the family to get out on their bikes and a have a fun day out together. I'll be taking part in the Cardiff BIG BIKE RIDE, so why not register and join in the fun. It’s sure to be a fantastic day out for all the family."
